JOHOR BARU: MCA’s grievances over Barisan Nasional’s continued cooperation with Pakatan Harapan must be discussed within the coalition, says a senior Umno leader.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the top BN leadership would definitely take MCA’s dissatisfaction into consideration.
Yesterday, Johor MCA Youth described the cooperation between BN and PH as weakening the coalition from within, claiming it would render some of its component parties irrelevant.
“They have the right to voice their views or dissatisfaction, but in the end, it is the people who determine whether a party gets support or not.
“So the answer (to MCA’s concerns) does not lie with Umno.”
However, Khaled said what is important is for all parties to continue engaging with one another and discussing issues together.
Khaled, who is also defence minister, said this after officiating the 56th Johor State Annual Delegates Conference of the Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association here today.
When asked about Johor MCA Youth’s claim that the BN-PH cooperation is weakening the coalition, Khaled said the collaboration allows BN to be part of the government.
“Whatever we go through next, such as seat distribution for the elections, we will review it when the time comes,” he said.
Previously, MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon said there was growing frustration among MCA members over the party’s uncertain political direction within BN and the unity government.
Subsequently, Johor Umno Youth chief Noor Azleen Ambros said Chong’s remarks showed he failed to see the bigger picture.
