KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 — The lorry driver remanded to assist investigations into last Saturday’s fatal accident at the Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza will be released today on police bail, pending full reports and analysis, said Kajang District Police Chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof.

He said police have recorded statements from seven witnesses and the investigation papers have also been referred to the Public Prosecutor.

“Action against the lorry driver’s employer is also being reviewed together with the relevant agencies,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Naazron said the lorry involved will be sent for inspection by the Chemistry Department and the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (PUSPAKOM) this Thursday to determine the cause of the accident.

On the condition of the victims still being treated in hospital, he said one has been transferred to Hospital, another remains under treatment at Kajang Hospital, while one more was discharged yesterday from a private hospital in Kajang.

The media previously reported that the accident last Saturday involved a lorry believed to have experienced brake failure, a car and two sport utility vehicles (SUVs), resulting in the death of a one-year-old boy and injuring seven others.

The remand period for the 42-year-old lorry driver ends today and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
