IPOH: A 43-year-old man who was shot during a hunting trip in Batu Caves, , was later abandoned by the roadside in Kampung Selamat, Semanggol near Bagan Serai.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the victim, who had three gunshot wounds on his back, was confirmed dead by a health officer from the Semanggol Health Clinic after police were alerted to the case around 3.55am on Monday (Sept 29).

A post-mortem will be conducted on Wednesday (Oct 1) at the Taiping Hospital.

Comm Noor Hisam said investigations revealed that one of the suspects had mistakenly shot the victim, thinking he was an animal, while hunting with two others on the night of Sept 28.

“The group then transported the victim to Semanggol in a car before leaving his body by an unpaved road.

Three men, aged 32 to 36, who are believed to be involved in the case were arrested on Monday, said Comm Noor Hisham, two in Kampung Selamat and one in Batu Caves.

“One of them is believed to be related to the victim,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Sept 30).

He said police also seized three vehicles, two homemade shotguns, 11 rounds of 12-bore ammunition, and four mobile phones.

Comm Noor Hisam said the three suspects have been remanded for seven days until Oct 6 for investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

He said police are still tracking down another suspect.
