Bersatu’s disciplinary board has pledged to take firm action against members found guilty of breaching party rules, amid escalating tensions over allegations involving senior leaders.
This comes after Bersatu Supreme Council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan said yesterday that he planned to refer secretary-general Azmin Ali and information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz to the board over alleged threats made against division leaders linked to a supposed plot to oust Muhyiddin Yassin as party president.
The board said it took a serious view of all developments and recent statements involving several party members.
“As an institution entrusted with upholding discipline, integrity and organisational rules, we stress that every breach of party discipline and regulations will be dealt with uncompromisingly,” it said in a statement.
The board said it would convene soon to examine all reports and complaints submitted.
“All members referred to the board will be summoned to attend official proceedings to provide explanations and defend themselves according to the established rules.
“We want to emphasise that this process will be conducted with transparency, fairness and in line with the party’s constitution.
“Any member found guilty of breaching discipline and tarnishing the party’s image will face stern action, including immediate expulsion,” it said.
The board urged Bersatu members to remain focussed on the party’s struggles and avoid actions that could weaken it.
Wan Saiful’s plan to refer Azmin and Tun Faisal to the disciplinary board came days after he confirmed that statutory declarations (SDs) were indeed collected from division chiefs.
However, the Tasek Gelugor MP said, the move had been “twisted” by certain quarters to paint a negative picture as the true intention of the SDs was not to topple the party president.
