PETALING JAYA:

Petrol station operators say Malaysians should not panic if the fuel pump displays the full price of RON95 when they fill up with subsidised petrol from tomorrow.

Eligible Malaysians will pay only RM1.99 per litre for RON95 under the BUDI95 fuel subsidy initiative, to be rolled out fully tomorrow.

Foreigners and foreign-registered vehicles, on the other hand, will have to pay the unsubsidised price.

“The pump display will show the latest retail price but eligible motorists will automatically receive the subsidy.

“Don’t panic, the pre-payment confirmation and final receipt will reflect the discounted amount,” Petroleum Dealers’ Association of Malaysia president Khairul Annuar Abdul Aziz told FMT.

Khairul, whose association represents more than 4,000 petrol stations nationwide, also said motorists requiring further clarifications can contact the station’s customer service for assistance.

The finance ministry had, in its “Frequently Asked Questions” about BUDI95, previously said that motorists should not worry about the difference between the prices shown on the fuel pump and the receipt.

For example, if the retail price on the display shows RM2.60 per litre, Malaysians will only pay RM1.99.

Earlier tonight, the finance ministry said non-subsidised RON95 petrol will be fixed at RM2.60 per litre for the whole of October, marking a 55 sen increase from the current rate of RM2.05 per litre.

Under the BUDI95 initiative, citizens aged 16 and above with an active driving licence are eligible for the subsidised rate, with verification done via MyKad, the same mechanism used for the distribution of Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) aid.

Each Malaysian is entitled to 300 litres of subsidised RON95 petrol per month, although e-hailing services are exempted from this limit.

Checks for BUDI95 qualification can be done online from Thursday through www.budimadani.gov.my, at BUDI95 customer service centres, or on the Setel and CaltexGO apps.
