A total of RM22.9 million in RON95 petrol was purchased within a day of the implementation of the BUDI95 initiative nationwide yesterday.
Deputy finance minister Lim Hui Ying said the purchase value was equivalent to around 11.5 million litres of RON95 bought at RM1.99 per litre.
“Yesterday, the second phase of BUDI95 was opened to five million Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) recipients nationwide.
“The redemption process went smoothly without any disruptions.
“This followed the success of the first phase on Saturday, which involved 300,000 police and military personnel nationwide,” Bernama reported her as saying in Alor Setar today.
Lim said the savings obtained from the initiative would be channelled towards improving health services, education and basic infrastructure development.
She urged the public to take advantage of the benefits and ensure their MyKad chips were working and their driving licences were still valid.
“The road transport department has also updated the database following complaints about eligibility status.
“On Sept 30 (tomorrow), this system will be fully opened to 16 million citizens aged 16 and above with MyKad and active driving licences.”
Lim also reminded the public not to rush to fill up on petrol tomorrow as all eligible citizens would still be able to enjoy the subsidised price of RM1.99 per litre over the long-term.
