Police have arrested an e-hailing driver who allegedly asked a teenager to remove her headscarf while he was sending her home.
The incident is believed to have occurred as the 15-year-old was getting into the suspect’s car. However, it is not known where the incident took place.
The suspect was later apprehended by the girl’s family and handed over to the police, reported Berita Harian.
In a Facebook post, women, family and community development minister Nancy Shukri said she was following the case closely.
She also called on the public to continue speaking out against such cases of sexual harassment.
“The firm action taken by the victim’s father to lodge a report reflects growing public awareness about sexual harassment – an issue that must not be taken lightly,” she said.
“To teenagers out there – do not remain silent. You have the right to act for your safety and dignity.”
