
Police have arrested a 70-year-old man believed to be involved in the death of a man in Cherok Tokun, Bukit Mertajam, Penang, on Sunday.
Seberang Perai Tengah police chief Helmi Aris said the suspect was arrested at around 11pm last night in front of a coffee shop in Machang Bubok.
“The Bukit Mertajam magistrates’ court has allowed a remand application for the suspect until May 6 to facilitate further investigation,” Sinar Harian reported him as saying.
Helmi said with the arrest, police have solved the case of the 63-year-old man who died after being beaten and stabbed in a fight in Cherok Tokun on Sunday.
In the 3.22pm incident, the victim was said to have been talking with five of his friends, including the suspect, when an argument broke out.
The suspect is alleged to have hit the victim from behind with a piece of wood, knocking him to the ground, before stabbing him with a knife.
The victim was confirmed dead at the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
