KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — Malaysians have been urged to brace for more intense weather events as the inter-monsoon phase begins on Sept 30 and continues until November.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) said the transition from the southwest monsoon would see weaker winds from multiple directions across the country.
This shift is expected to fuel thunderstorms and heavy downpours, often accompanied by strong gusts, particularly in the late afternoons and evenings.
Western and inland parts of the peninsula, along with western Sabah and Sarawak, are likely to bear the brunt of the unstable weather.
METMalaysia warned that flash floods, falling trees, sudden water surges and damage to fragile structures could also occur during this period.
It advised the public to stay alert to weather updates and warnings issued on its website, myCuaca mobile app and social media channels.
People are also encouraged to contact the agency’s hotline at 1-300-22-1638 for the latest information.
