PETALING JAYA:

National shuttler Justin Hoh put up a spirited fight but was no match for world No 2 Anders Antonsen in their Korea Open last 16 match today.

The world No 37 went down 17-21, 11-21 in 41 minutes at the Suwon Gymnasium. It was their first meeting on the international circuit.

Despite the straight-game defeat, Justin made the Dane work hard for his points. Antonsen will meet either Japan’s Kodai Naraoka or Taiwan’s Su Li Yang in the quarter-finals.

Earlier, men’s doubles pair Choong Hon Jian and Haikal Nazri crashed out after a 17-21, 11-21 loss to Japan’s Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi.

The World Tour Super 500 event has been a tough outing for Malaysian players, with only two mixed doubles pairs still in the running.

Tomorrow, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie will take on world No 1 pair Jiang Zhenbang-Wei Yaxin of , while Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien face Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen-Alexandra Boje.
