Qualcomm has announced 6G network technology is on the way, and that it will be releasing pre-commercial devices that support it by the year 2028. The announcement was made during the first of the Qualcomm Summit 2025, by its CEO, Cristiano Amon.

Amon also noted that the foundations for 6G networks is currently being set, specifically in the countries of and . The choice of countries make sense, given that is ranked as a country with one of the most advanced network and internet technology, both for mobile and landline infrastructure.

It’s amazing to think that 5G began its rollout as early as 2019, and less than a decade on, we’re already looking at the evangelism of 6G taking place. That said, Qualcomm clearly has ulterior motives in wanting to expedite its development.

A major motive is due to Qualcomm’s all-in approach with AI. Specifically, it sees the medium as something more seamless than the approach that other entities are offering. The keywords here, for Amon at least, is Edge AI, allowing devices to process data locally, rather than from a cloud server.
