XIAMEN University Malaysia (XMUM) recently concluded its convocation ceremony with a total of 1,439 students graduating from their campus in Sepang, .

The students were from across 20 undergraduate and seven postgraduate programmes. They joined the 6,302 who have graduated over the years and are now working in industry-leading companies such as Petronas, Huawei, EY, Public Bank, OCBC, Touch ‘n Go and Genting.

Many graduates from the Class of 2025 have also received offers for postgraduate study from world-renowned universities including the University of Pennsylvania (United States), Imperial College London (United Kingdom), National University of Singapore, University of Sydney (Australia), Peking University (), University of Hong Kong and the University of Tokyo (Japan).

Currently, XMUM offers 25 undergraduate degree programmes across various disciplines including International Business, Data Science, Communication, Marine Biology, Robotics and Automation, and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

It also offers 14 master’s programmes, among them Master of Business Administration and Master in Semiconductor Technology, along with seven PhD programmes as well as three foundation programmes.

Since welcoming its first batch of students in February 2016, XMUM has built up a diverse and high-calibre faculty team of 300 full-time academic staff, 80% of whom hold doctoral degrees.

As such, its faculty members and students have produced 2,090 publications in SCI journals, including 1,144 publications in prestigious Tier-1 journals, such as Science, Nature and The Lancet.

Nine XMUM publications have been selected as Essential Science Indicators (ESI) Top 0.1% Hot Papers globally, while 106 publications were identified as Top 1% Highly Cited Papers globally.

According to the latest ESI data, XMUM is ranked 11th among the higher education institutions in Malaysia for total citations, and first for citation per paper.

In the fields of clinical medicine, neuroscience and behaviour, engineering, social sciences (general), XMUM has been selected as ESI Top 1% Highly Cited Institutions globally. In 2024, 11 XMUM academics were identified as World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University.

Xiamen University is ranked 41st in Asia and 198th globally in the “2024-2025 Best Global Universities Ranking”, published by US News and World Report.

In recent years, XMUM has awarded more than RM50mil worth of scholarships annually, based on various criteria. The university said any surplus funds are channelled back into research and further development of the campus.

The university said it aspires to become a university with a distinct global outlook, featuring first-class teaching and research, and embracing cultural diversity.
