Yemen Ambassador Enrolls As PhD Student At USIM

NILAI, Sept 24 (Bernama) — Universiti Sains Malaysia (USIM) has proudly welcomed Dr Adel Mohamed Ali Ba Hamid, the ambassador of the Republic of Yemen to Malaysia, as a new doctorate student in Human Resource Management.

In a statement, vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Sharifudin Md Shaarani shared that the registration ceremony, held at Tuanku Chancellor Hall (DTC), marked the beginning of the 2025/2026 academic session.

Dr Adel, alongside 494 other new students, officially joined USIM’s academic community yesterday.

“Having an ambassador enroll as a PhD student speaks volumes about USIM’s reputation, particularly among international students. Dr Adel’s research will undoubtedly strengthen both academic progress and the ties between Malaysia and Yemen,” Sharifudin said.

Dr Adel, 52, brings with him a rich academic background, holding a medical degree from the University of Aden in Yemen and a Master’s in Community Medicine and Public Health. He explained why he chose USIM for his further studies.

“I’ve always believed in the fusion of Naqli (revealed knowledge) and Aqli (rational knowledge), and USIM offers that perfect blend. I’m eager to contribute research that will benefit communities in Yemen, Malaysia, and the Muslim world,” he added.

Meanwhile, Israt Jihan Umme, 20, from Dhaka, Bangladesh, has made her mark, enrolling in the Bachelor of Computer Science programme with a focus on Information Security and Assurance.

Israt, the elder of two siblings, arrived in Malaysia on Sept 15, with big dreams of making a meaningful impact through her studies.

The university also welcomed twin brothers Mohamed Tariq and Mansour Tariq Mansour Wafi, both 19, from Palestine.

Mohamed Tariq is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Honours) at the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment (FKAB), while Mansour Tariq is studying Computer Science (Information Security and Assurance) at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST).

The brothers shared that they chose Malaysia for its peaceful environment, which they believe is ideal for both academic and personal growth.
