PETALING JAYA:

The Kuala Lumpur sessions court has ordered blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris, also known as Papagomo, to enter his defence on a charge of making a seditious statement involving the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Judge Norma Ismail said the prosecution had succeeded in proving a prima facie case against the 42-year-old, Sinar Harian reported.

Lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali, representing Wan Azri, said the former Youth leader would be the sole witness testifying in his defence.

Norma fixed Nov 4 for the first day of proceedings.

Wan Azri was accused of making the seditious statement in a post on X, under the account sir_azri, at a condominium in Bukit Bintang at 12pm on April 29.

If convicted under the Sedition Act, he faces a maximum fine of RM5,000, up to three years in prison, or both.

Earlier this month, Wan Azri was freed of a separate charge of sedition against the government, with the same sessions court ruling that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against him.

He was charged with making a seditious statement by claiming that the government was “pro-Israel and pro-Western nations”.

The Attorney-General’s Chambers is appealing the decision.
