KUALA LUMPUR: The deputy public prosecutor assigned to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has been detained for alleged drug possession and consumption, says Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail.
The Inspector-General of Police said the suspect was detained on Tuesday (Sept 23).
“He was in possession of drugs and tested positive for drug consumption. The Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) is investigating further,” he told reporters at Bukit Aman on Wednesday (Sept 24).
Previously, the MACC said that it will not compromise on any form of misconduct or crime committed by its officers following the arrest of a deputy public prosecutor recently assigned to the agency.
Police detained the officer who had just reported for duty last week at his residence. A subsequent inspection also led to the discovery of suspected drugs.
The MACC said the case has been handed over entirely to the police for further investigation and has pledged its full cooperation to the authorities.
“The commission will not tolerate any misconduct, breach of the law or criminal acts by any of its officers or staff. We are committed to upholding integrity and good governance at all times,” it said.
It added that it remains firm in ensuring its personnel maintain the highest standards of professionalism and accountability.
