SARAWAK POLICE DISPOSE OF DRUGS, POISONS WORTH RM1.47 MILLION
KUCHING — Sarawak police today disposed of various drugs and poisons worth RM1,471,837.24 from narcotics-related cases.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said the disposal involved exhibits from 11,004 cases from 2017 to 2024 that had been concluded in terms of investigation and court proceedings.
“The disposal of these case items was carried out in accordance with Sections 406A and 407 of the Criminal Procedure Code,” he said in a statement.
Mancha said among the exhibits destroyed were 5.4 kilogrammes of ecstasy powder, 9.7 kg of syabu (methamphetamine), and 1.1 kg of cannabis.

29 PROTECTED BIRDS SEIZED BY MARINE POLICE, PERHILITAN
KUALA TERENGGANU — A total of 29 wild birds of protected species and 14 bird cages worth RM100,300 were seized by the Kuala Terengganu Marine Police and the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) at a premise in Kampung Getang, Kuala Berang, Hulu Terengganu, yesterday.
In a statement today, Region 3 Marine Police Commander ACP Zulafendy Hassan said the birds seized were long-tailed parakeets (18), blue-crowned hanging parrots (six), striped-throated bulbuls (three), white-rumped shama (one), and leafbird (one), all of which are protected species under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 (Act 716).
Zulafendy added that a 52-year-old local man admitted that the wild birds belonged to him but failed to produce any licence or special permit from Perhilitan.
The case is being investigated under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 (Act 716).

3.65-METRE LONG CROCODILE CAUGHT AT PANTAI TELUK BAHANG
GEORGE TOWN — The Civil Defence Force (APM) captured a 3.65-metre-long saltwater crocodile that appeared along the shoreline behind a hotel in Teluk Bahang here today.
Timur Laut Civil Defence officer Captain (PA) Muhammad Aizat Abdul Ghani said the team received information about the sighting at 3.30 pm.
He said in the first attempt, the crocodile was pulled to shore with the help of a fisherman’s boat and net, but the reptile escaped when the net ripped.
“The second attempt at 6 pm proved successful when the crocodile was safely captured and brought ashore before being handed over to the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan),” he said in a statement.
Members of the public are advised to exercise caution when swimming at the beach and to immediately contact 999 or the Penang Civil Defence state operations control centre at 04-226 3876 if they spot a crocodile.
