INFRA holds International Training For Timor-Leste Officials – Ahmad Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 (Bernama) — International training for community leaders and government officials from Timor-Leste, organised by the Institute for Rural Advancement (INFRA), began today to expose them to Malaysia’s experience in rural community development.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in a Facebook post today, said 10 participants from Timor-Leste are attending the six-day training, titled Course on Empowering Community Leaders Towards Sustainable Rural Development.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said the training initiative was a follow-up to his visit to Timor-Leste in August last year.

He said the Timor-Leste officials and community leaders will attend lectures on national policy and administrative structures, as well as sessions on community, youth and women’s development. They will also visit TVET institutions and rural homestays, and take part in cultural and village handicraft activities.

“This initiative proves that Malaysia’s experience in rural development continues to serve as a regional reference, and this collaboration further strengthens Malaysia-Timor-Leste relations.

“This is a symbol of cooperation between two regional countries, showing that Malaysia’s rural development model is recognised and used as a reference by our neighbour,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid thanked INFRA, a training institution under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, for carrying out the programme with full commitment and dedication.

“I pray that this knowledge-sharing will bring great benefits to the participants, while opening up new avenues for cooperation towards more sustainable rural progress. Insya-Allah, this is only the beginning of more regional initiatives for our shared prosperity,” he added.
