KOTA KINABALU: Two Chinese tourists were arrested for allegedly sending a bomb threat email to an airline company after not being able to change their flight seats.

It is understood that the man, 29, and woman, 28, had contacted their travel agent to change their flight seats but received no response.

Furious, they sent an email to the airline headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, claiming there was a bomb on a flight that was supposed to depart from Tawau to Kota Kinabalu.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said a report was lodged from the company staff at around 3pm, Monday (Sept 22).

The couple was detained after that and were brought to the Tawau police station for questioning.

A four-day remand order until Sept 27 was subsequently issued by the Tawau Magistrate Court for the purpose of this investigation, he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 and Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

It is learnt the couple had just returned from a holiday in Semporna and were supposed to fly to Kota Kinabalu on Tuesday (Sept 23).
