Three men have been sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment and fined RM250,000 each by the Kota Tinggi sessions court for possessing the carcass of a tigress without a special permit.
Shaheezam Salim, 49, along with brothers Nazerin Tomiran, 47, and Nazrol Tomiran, 28, pleaded guilty when the charge was read before judge Hayda Faridzal Abu Hasan.
The charge was framed under Section 70(1) of the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 for hunting or keeping a female of a totally protected wildlife species without a special permit, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
Berita Harian reported that the three men were jointly accused of keeping the carcass of the animal in the rear compartment of a multi-purpose vehicle.
The offence was said to have been committed at a petrol station in Felda Tenggaroh in Mersing, Johor, at around 6.10am on Sept 10.
