KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 — MyKad readers will be set up at all petrol stations and pump terminals to simplify access to the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) programme, which begins this Saturday (September 27).

According to The Star, eligible recipients of targeted subsidised RON95 will only need to verify their identity using their MyKad, with no registration required.

“The MyKad readers will be available at the stations and pump terminals to reduce the risk of congestion. Another option is through Touch’n Go e-wallet or mobile apps like Setel by Petronas and CaltexGo,” the Finance Ministry said in a statement Monday (September 22).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim previously announced that the Budi95 programme will lower the price of RON95 from RM2.05 to RM1.99 per litre.

The ministry said the programme will be rolled out in stages to ensure a smooth system without a sudden spike in users.

It will first be available to 300,000 members of the armed forces and police on September 27, followed by Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) recipients from the B40 group on September 28.

All 16 million Malaysians aged 16 and above with a MyKad and active driving licence will be able to use the programme starting September 30.

Citizens are advised to check that the chip in their MyKad is functioning and that their driving licence is valid before using Budi95.

However, those receiving aid from Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) or Penghargaan Sara do not need to rush to renew their MyKad, as the chip is considered active.

“More information related to Budi95 will be made available from time to time. The public is advised to refer to the Ministry’s official channels for the latest verified updates,” the spokesman added.
