KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 — The flood situation in Sabah is improving, with only two temporary relief centres (PPS) still operating in the Penampang and Papar districts.
The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), in a statement today, said 90 people from 22 families were still taking shelter at the PPS as of this morning.
It said the number of flood victims in Papar stood at eight, while landslides in Penampang involved 82 victims.
“Only two villages are still affected, one each in Papar and Penampang,” according to the statement.
The Sabah JPBN said landslides in the state have so far claimed 13 lives, while one person died in floods.
In Sarawak, the JPBN said 16 people from five families remained at the PPS at Dewan Suarah Marudi, Miri, this morning.
Data from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage’s Public Info Banjir portal showed the river level at Long Teru station stood at 8.47 m this morning, down from 8.69 m yesterday evening, still above the danger level of 8 m but showing a downward trend.
Also showing a downward trend was the water level at Marudi station, which stood at 3.92 metres (m) this morning compared with 4.12 m yesterday, exceeding the danger mark of 3.25 m. — Bernama
