The Petroleum Dealers’ Association of Malaysia (PDAM) has called on the public to cooperate with its members in handling initial challenges arising from the fuel subsidy rationalisation exercise.
The association said the targeted subsidy mechanism for RON95 will involve verifying customer eligibility, describing it as a complex process.
“Preparations are ongoing, and readiness may vary from brand to brand, and even from day to day.
“We sincerely hope the public will work with us constructively and avoid any unruly situations at petrol stations,” it said in a statement today.
PDAM also urged the government to set up hotlines to answer public queries.
Without elaborating, it said the government should address concerns it raised at previous consultation sessions before the subsidy mechanism is launched.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the price of RON95 petrol would be lowered from RM2.05 to RM1.99 per litre effective Sept 30 under the BUDI95 programme.
Anwar said Malaysians only need to present their MyKad at petrol stations to enjoy the new rate.
He said that based on data from the national registration department and road transport department, more than 16 million Malaysians would benefit from the new price.
Anwar also said those who are digitally savvy may use their e-wallets such as Touch ‘n Go or Setel to purchase the RON95 fuel at the subsidised price without needing to present their MyKad.
