SERDANG: A teenage boy with autism who was found alone on the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) last Friday night was safely reunited with his mother yesterday, two days after the incident.

Serdang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Farid Ahmad said police received a missing person report from the boy’s mother at 10pm last night.

“Based on the police report and interview with the complainant, we found that the boy had left their home in Taman Sri Sentosa on Friday at 5.50pm after getting upset, and failed to return home,” he said in a statement.

The mother told police that this behaviour was not unusual and that her son would typically return once he had calmed down.

“This time, however, when he failed to return home yesterday evening, the woman became worried and posted about his disappearance on her social media, seeking help,” he said.

“About 30 minutes later, she received a call from a man advising her to contact the Puchong Jaya police.

“She then confirmed her son’s location and was referred to the Social Welfare Department for the process of taking him home,” he said.

He said the boy was cared for at the Shah Alam Hospital children’s ward before being released to his family last night.

Muhamad Farid thanked members of the public and the media for helping trace the boy’s guardian and ensuring his safe return.

It was reported yesterday that a teen of Chinese descent was spotted at about 9.13pm on Sept 19 by a motorcyclist at Km43.2 of the Kesas highway heading toward Kuala Lumpur.

The boy was said to be sitting alone in the motorcycle lane. He had a light brown complexion and was wearing a short-sleeved blue shirt and blue jeans.

A motorist surrendered the boy to the Puchong Jaya police before police placed him in the temporary care of the Social Welfare Department.
