KUALA LUMPUR: Two policemen were sentenced to six months’ jail and fined RM2,000 each by the Sessions Court here on Monday (Sept 22) for accepting a bribe of RM800 as an inducement to not take any action involving a khalwat (close proximity) case.
Judge Rosli Ahmad handed down the sentence on Nur Fikri Mohd Fadzilee, 28, and Mohd Fazly Hambali, 39, after finding them guilty.
He ordered the two policemen to serve the jail sentence from Monday and to be jailed for another two months if they fail to pay the fine.
The two policemen were jointly charged with obtaining RM800 in cash from a police officer, who was caught on suspicion of committing khalwat with his partner in a car, as an inducement to not arrest or take action against the couple.
The offence was committed between midnight and 2.20am at a bus stop in Precinct 8, Putrajaya, on Oct 1, 2020.
The charge, framed under Section 165 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 of the same, provides a maximum jail sentence of two years or a fine or both upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohammad Fadhly Mohd Zamry and Prosecuting Officer Mohd Hanafi Firdhaus Abd Latif, while Nur Fikri was represented by lawyer Muhammad Afiq Audy Basharudin. Mohd Fazly was unrepresented. – Bernama
