PETALING JAYA: All state assembly members in Negri Sembilan have unanimously agreed that culling stray dogs in predominantly Malay residential areas should be implemented to address issues of disturbance and safety.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun stated that the overpopulation of stray dogs has disrupted residents’ daily activities. The issue has been repeatedly raised during state assembly sittings, giving the impression that the state government has taken no action to address it.

“We are focusing only on Muslim majority areas to avoid disrupting their daily routines, such as going to the mosque and school. These dogs are not fed, and eventually they interfere with the well-being of the local community — and that is our concern.

“Efforts to neuter stray dogs are ongoing, but the situation in Malay areas seems increasingly unmanageable. Each time the state assembly meets, the same issue is raised as if no action is being taken. So, I need the majority support of the state assemblymen to resolve this issue,” he said during the state assembly sitting on Wednesday (April 30), reported by Sinar Harian.

He was responding to a question from Sri Tanjung assemblyman, Dr. G Rajasekaran, regarding recurring concerns over wild animals such as monkeys and stray dogs, and the lack of effective action.

Labu assemblyman, Mohamad Hanifah Abu Baker, representing the opposition bloc, supported finding a solution to the stray dog issue and agreed that stricter action should be taken.

Meanwhile, Chuah assemblyman Yew Boon Lye, interjected by pointing out that the stray dog problem is not limited to Malay areas, but also occurs in non-Malay areas. He hopes that any action taken will be applied comprehensively.

Gemencheh assemblyman, Suhaimizan Bizar, also emphasised that the stray dog issue is not only faced by the Malay community, as many complaints have also been received from non-Malay residents who have encountered stray dogs while jogging.
