KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 — A student from Kolej Vokasional Pengkalan Chepa died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a trailer that was reversing across the road at Jalan Kampung Jembal here last night.

According to Utusan Malaysia, the incident, which occurred at 9.07pm, claimed the life of 20-year-old Norkhairi Amirul Sabri, who sustained severe injuries to multiple parts of his body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputy District Police Chief of Bachok, Deputy Superintendent Mohd Azrie Sulaiman, said investigations found that the victim had just completed a practical training stint at an engineering company in Terengganu last week and was riding a Yamaha Y15 motorcycle from Tawang towards Kota Jembal.

According to Mohd Azrie, upon reaching the scene, the victim likely did not have time to avoid a trailer coming from the opposite direction that was reversing and temporarily blocking the main road.

“The situation caused the victim to collide with the left side of the trailer. He fell and was pronounced dead at the scene before being sent to the Forensic Unit of Universiti Sains Malaysia Specialist Hospital in Kubang Kerian for an autopsy,” he said.

Further investigation revealed that the accident occurred when the 41-year-old trailer driver was reversing his vehicle before entering the opposite lane to access the parking area in front of his house.

The driver was arrested, and a urine screening test showed he was negative for drugs.

He also has no prior criminal record.
