PUTRAJAYA, Sept 22 (Bernama) — All Malaysians are eligible for a monthly subsidised ceiling of up to 300 litres of RON95 petrol under the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) targeted subsidy programme, the Finance Ministry (MoF) said today.
In a statement, MoF said e-hailing drivers are exempted from the eligible ceiling and may apply for additional allocations to ensure their livelihoods are not affected.
“This eligible monthly ceiling was set based on findings from the Department of Statistics, which showed that more than 99 per cent of private vehicle drivers in Malaysia do not exceed this amount,” the statement read.
“The ministry added that the government had taken steps to simplify the process for Malaysians to enjoy the subsidised RON95 price, including the fact that no prior registration is required.
“The only extra step is verification with a MyKad when purchasing RON95 at the subsidised price,” it said.
“Thirdly, MyKad readers will be placed inside convenience stores and also at fuel pump terminals to minimise congestion,” MoF added.
In addition, there will be digital payment options through the Touch ‘n Go e-wallet and fuel company apps such as Petronas’ Setel and CaltexGo.
The BUDI95 programme will be rolled out in stages to ensure a smooth transition without sudden surges in demand.
The system will first open on Sept 27 for 300,000 military and police personnel, followed by B40 recipients of Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) cash aid on Sept 28.
“On Sept 30, the BUDI95 system will be made available to 16 million Malaysians aged 16 and above who hold a valid MyKad and driving licence,” MoF said.
The MADANI government has urged the public to ensure their MyKad chip is functional and their driving licence remains valid before the transition to BUDI95.
“However, there is no need to rush to renew the MyKad if people are still able to redeem benefits under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) appreciation aid, as this proves that their MyKad chip is working,” MoF said.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the price of RON95 petrol would be reduced to RM1.99 per litre from RM2.05 per litre, effective Sept 30, under the BUDI95 targeted subsidy programme.
