PETALING JAYA:

Attorney-General’s Chambers says Warisan president Shafie Apdal could be held in contempt of court for making remarks on the Zara Qairina Mahathir case while the inquest into her death is still ongoing.

In a statement, the AGC said it is reviewing the contents of Shafie’s speech at an event in Kinabatangan last Saturday, and stressed that it will not hesitate to take firm action under the law once the review is complete.

“(This) includes initiating contempt of court proceedings,” it said.

It added that such statements have the potential to create inaccurate public perceptions and disrupt the smooth conduct of ongoing court proceedings.
