KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia celebrated a double delight on Sunday as Duncan Lee and Zoe Foo clinched the men’s and women’s titles at the US$6,000 PSA Challenger in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
World No. 115 Duncan, who won the SEA Cup and National Championships this year, battled back from a game down to defeat Egypt’s world No. 281 Omar El Torkey 6-11, 12-10, 11-4, 11-3 in 50 minutes.
In the women’s final, world No. 233 Zoe edged Indonesia’s world No. 376 Raifa Yattaqi 11-6, 7-11, 11-6, 13-11 in 44 minutes.
For Zoe, the victory was extra special after the 27-year-old quit her job in June to return to the pro circuit.
The 23-year-old Duncan, meanwhile, said he was thrilled to land his first PSA Tour title of the year.
“It feels nice to win this title,” said the Sabah-born.
“I had strong competition all week, and although I lost the first game in the final, I managed to bounce back and beat Omar.
“I’m looking forward to another good outing at the US$15,000 tournament in Japan next month.”
