KUALA LUMPUR:

A Nigerian man claimed trial at the magistrates’ court here today to wounding a policeman by biting the latter’s left ear.

Okenyehke Kelvin Obianke was slapped with one charge under Section 325 of the Penal Code for causing grievous injury to officer Danierul Azraq Ahmad Khair’s left ear last Friday.

The alleged offence took place in front of a clinic in Metro Prima, Kepong.

If found guilty, Okenyehke will face a jail term of up to seven years and a fine.

When the court asked him what plea he intended to enter, Okenyehke initially said he wanted to plead guilty.

“It was not intentional,” he said.

The charge was reread to Okenyehke, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate S Mageswary denied bail and fixed June 10 for next mention.

“You can appoint a lawyer (before June 10),” she added.

Meanwhile in another court, Okenyehke claimed trial to a charge under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act for not having a valid permit to enter Malaysia, and another count under the Dangerous Drugs Act for self-administering nimetazepam.

Both offences allegedly happened on the same day.

Magistrate Atiqah Mohamed denied bail and set June 23 for mention.
