KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — If you have questions about the law in Malaysia, head over to KL Sentral today for free advice from lawyers at the Malaysian Bar’s first-ever MyBar Carnival 2025.

Malaysian Bar secretary Murshidah Mustafa, who is also co-chair of the organising committee, said the carnival was held at KL Sentral as it is a central and accessible location.

“Our aim was to remove barriers. We wanted to demystify the law, to bring it closer to the people, not something distant or intimidating,” she said in her welcome speech.

“The legal hub was designed to allow you, the public, to walk into the booths, ask a question and receive guidance — not a lecture, not a textbook answer, but practical, real conversation.

“We create spaces where you can meet mentors, find guidance and see the profession not just as a career, but as a calling. And this is our investment in the future, ensuring that the next generation of lawyers not only practise with competence, but with compassion and integrity,” she said when addressing aspiring lawyers.

Malaysian Bar president Datuk Mohamad Ezri Abdul Wahab said the carnival reflects the Bar Council’s vision of a Malaysian Bar that is “not confined to offices and courtrooms, but one that is approachable, visible and relevant to the people of Malaysia.”

“The law cannot be effective if it is seen as distant or elitist. It must live in the community. It must be understood and felt by people in their daily lives — in their work, in their families, in their communities.

“And the Bar, as the guardian of the legal profession and of the rule of law, has a responsibility to ensure that this accessibility is real, not theoretical,” he said in his keynote address.

He added that the carnival is about opening doors, breaking down barriers and showing that the law belongs to everyone.

There are 46 booths today, including those by the Bar Council’s Legal Aid Centre, Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Malaysia, state Bar committees, Bar Council committees, the Malaysian judiciary, Employees Provident Fund (EPF), Road Transport Department (JPJ), police, Companies Commission of Malaysia, Department of Insolvency, Health Ministry and the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN).

Apart from learning about your legal rights, you can also do bankruptcy searches, learn about road safety, dental health and retirement savings, and get consultations on PTPTN loan repayments.

Talks throughout the day will cover topics such as becoming a lawyer, scam prevention and understanding mediation.

The carnival is being held at the KLIA Ekspres Arrival Hall at KL Sentral and will end at 5.45pm today.
