KUALA LUMPUR: A woman has disowned her 41-year-old son for continuing to borrow from loan sharks after she spent RM1.5mil to pay off his previous debts.
I settled his past debts by selling my belongings and other assets, but now he has borrowed more and fled,” said the 65-year-old Pek at a press conference on Sunday (Sept 21)
She said that the41-year-old, known as Lee, has now been missing since September 4, leaving his family—especially his mother—to face the wrath of the loan sharks.
“I have no choice but to disown him,” she added at the press conference organised by MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong
Pek, who was sobbing, said Lee incurred the debts to fund his business.
“The loan sharks threatened to burn our house and even sent videos of petrol bombs being thrown at the house. Instead of coming after us, go after him (Lee),” she added.
She has since lodged two police reports.
In another case, 30-year-old Soon said her family was threatened by ah long due to debts incurred by her stepsister.
“I have been in contact with her for 18 years but suddenly I received calls from loan sharks, saying she owed them RM7,000. I then discovered she had used my house address to get the loans,” she said.
She added the loan sharks even threatened to post photos of her online and defamed her by claiming she was a con woman.
“I have lodged a police report and hope the police can take action against those who threatened me,” she said.
