KUALA LUMPUR: Some 42,288 advocacy notices were issued to traffic offenders during the Ops Law Compliance (PUU) special operation.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the notices were issued during the operation conducted from September 16 to 20.
“Traffic obstruction remains the most common offence, with 18,169 notices issued, followed by disregarding traffic signs (9,897), stopping in the yellow box (2,328), and fancy number plates (1,843).
Other offences recorded were not wearing seat belts (259), not wearing helmets (1,633), illegally modifying motorcycles (872), not using pedestrian paths (4,186), and stopping beyond the white line (1,758),” he said in a statement on Sunday (September 21).
DCP Mohamed Usuf said most notices were issued to motorcycle riders (19,672), followed by car drivers (18,058), pedestrians (2,206), van drivers (821), lorry drivers (576), and taxi drivers (955).
He reminded the public to follow traffic rules and regulations.
“The operation focuses on education, community engagement, easing congestion caused by errant road users, and crime prevention efforts.
The operation is designed to instil long-term awareness about the importance of road safety,” he said.
It was reported that the operation initially focused on high-traffic zones in the city centre, including Jalan Loke Yew, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Tun Razak, and several other hotspots under KL police jurisdiction.
The advocacy operation will continue until an unspecified date, after which strict enforcement will be imposed.
The operation started on Sept 6.
