Police have arrested a 34-year-old man for allegedly cutting cables by the roadside in Sungai Tiram in Johor after a video of the act went viral on social media.
Acting Seri Alam OCPD Supt G. Vikra Mathiththan said the 33-second clip was uploaded on a Facebook page, showing the suspect’s mischief.
He added police received a report from a 35-year-old local man following the incident, which occurred at about 3am on Saturday (Sept 20) morning along Jalan Raya Sungai Tiram.
“Based on information received, police arrested a local man the same day.
“Checks revealed the suspect had four prior records related to criminal and drug offences,” he said here on Sunday (Sept 21).
Supt Vikra said an initial urine test found the man positive for methamphetamine and the case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code.
He added that the suspect is also being probed under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug consumption.
Supt Vikra reminded the public not to spread unverified news or speculate on the case, as it could cause misunderstanding and anxiety among the community.
“The police welcome cooperation from the public. Anyone with information on criminal activities can channel it to the nearest police station or call the Seri Alam police control centre at 07-3871422 or the hotline at 07-3861422,” he said.
