Number of flood victims in Sabah drops to 439, situation in Sarawak remains unchanged

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — The number of flood victims at temporary relief centres (PPS) in Sabah showed a decrease this morning, while in Sarawak, the number remained unchanged.

In Sabah, the number of flood victims at the PPS dropped to 439 people from 128 families this morning, from  892 people (273 families) yesterday evening.

The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), in a statement, said that all the victims are at four PPS in the districts of Penampang, Membakut and Papar.

“The number of flood victims in Papar (126 people) and Penampang (121 people) showed a decreasing trend, while in Membakut, the number remained unchanged at 192 people,” it said.

It also said 53 villages are still affected by the flood, involving 24 villages in Penampang, Papar (20) and Membakut (nine).

In Sarawak, the State Disaster Management Committee said there were still 17 people from five families at the PPS at Dewan Suarah Marudi, Miri, this morning.

Meanwhile, according to the Drainage and Irrigation Department’s Public Info Banjir, the river water level at the  Long Teru station is still at the danger level of 8.77 metres, while at the Marudi station, it remained at 4.17 metres. — Bernama
