PETALING JAYA:

Pulai MP Suhaizan Kaiat was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Johor Bahru last night due to a bacterial infection, according to Johor Amanah chief Aminolhuda Hassan.

Aminolhuda said Suhaizan’s oxygen level had dropped due to the infection, but that he was now in stable condition and being closely monitored.

“It’s true that Suhaizan was hospitalised on Monday due to an intestinal infection and elevated white blood cell count, which caused his oxygen level to drop.

“Alhamdulillah, his condition is now stable. However, he developed a high fever last night, which led to a further drop in his oxygen level.

“This morning, he was stable and conscious, but doctors are continuing to monitor him in the ICU,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.

The Malay-language daily reported Suhaizan’s aide as earlier confirming that the former Johor assembly speaker was admitted to a private hospital at around 11pm yesterday.

“Visits are not permitted while he remains in the ICU. Let us all pray for Suhaizan’s speedy recovery,” the aide added.

Suhaizan won the Pulai seat with a majority of 18,641 votes in a by-election on Sept 9, 2023. The by-election was called after its elected representative, Salahuddin Ayub, died on July 23 the same year.
