PETALING JAYA:

Sabah has hit out at Warisan for apparently holding political events amid the floods in various parts of the state.

In a statement, accused Shafie Apdal’s party of prioritising its political agenda over the people’s welfare, when the federal and state governments were focused on helping the victims of floods and landslides over the past week.

“All unity government leaders should be more aware about the plight of the people instead of taking advantage of it with cheap politics for the sake of their selfish interests,” it said.

Sabah said Warisan should not be pointing fingers at the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-led state government over the state’s issues.

It claimed that Shafie’s tenure in leading the state administration was fraught with “decisions that burdened the rakyat”.

This included the termination of contracts for nine water concessionaires, which led to a suit and the state being forced to pay a total of RM315.2 million in compensation to the companies.

As of 2.40pm today, there were 1,507 flood victims in 15 relief centres in Penampang, Membakut and Papar.

Thirteen people, including seven children, have died from landslides triggered by torrential rain in Sabah.
