KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 — Sabah commissioner Datuk Aliakbar Gulasan has lodged a police report after red paint was splashed on the gate of his home in Kota Kinabalu and a note bearing the word “Datuk” was left behind.

Aliakbar said the report was made to enable an investigation into possible foul play and to ensure the safety of his family.

“This morning (Thursday), red paint was splashed on my gate and there was a note with the word ‘Datuk’. I lodged a police report because incidents like this usually imply a threat or intimidation,” he said in a Facebook post last night.

“However, I am not accusing anyone of being involved. I just hope such incidents will not happen again.”

He added that if the act was politically motivated, it reflected an outdated approach that had no place in Malaysian politics.

“If it is related to politics, I think this is an old tactic. We should be practising healthy, calm and peaceful democracy.

“Throughout my involvement in politics, I have never launched personal attacks, hurled insults or used foul language in my speeches or campaigns,” he said.
