KULAI, Sept 20 — A total of 35 solar lamps have been installed at seven locations around the Kulai parliament constituency through the ‘Sinar Harapan’ project at a total cost of RM122,500.

Kulai Member of Parliament Teo Nie Ching, who is also deputy minister of communications, said the project, which was fully completed on September 11, was implemented after requests from the local community.

“The specifications of this solar lamp are 60 watts, six metres high, capable of operating for 12 hours from 7pm to 7am, equipped with a battery that lasts for two days and comes with a two-year warranty.

“Any damage can be promptly checked by the contractor,” she said after a visit to the project site at the Taman Impian Senai Arena here last night.

According to her, the solar lamps were installed at the Taman Impiana Senai Recreation Park (4 lamps), Kampung Baru Senai (2), Kampung Baru Sengkang (2), Kampung Baru Ayer Bemban Recreation Park (10), Kampung Baru Sedenak (1), Dewan Raya PPS Kampung Murni Jaya (10) and Surau Ayer Bemban (6).

She said the LED solar lamp technology used has been approved by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) and is certified by SIRIM.

“Each lamp unit costs about RM3,500, and bulk installation allows us to obtain more competitive pricing,” she said. — Bernama
