
Obstruction of traffic, failure to obey traffic lights, stopping within yellow boxes and stopping past the white line at traffic light junctions were among the top offences recorded by traffic police in Kuala Lumpur this week.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Usuf Jan Mohamad said a total of 10,036 notices of offences were issued during the Sept 16-18 operation.
The top offences comprised: failure to obey traffic lights (2,326 notices); stopping in the yellow box (525); stopping past the white line at traffic light intersections (470); vehicle registration numbers that did not comply with specifications (224); dirty, blurred or fancy plate numbers (458); not wearing seat belts (408); motorcyclists not wearing helmets (32); and unauthorised motorcycle modifications (199).
He said a total of 9,508 notices involved various types of vehicles while 528 notices were issued to pedestrians.
The highest number of notices were issued to motorcyclists (4,578) followed by drivers of cars (4,353), taxis (219), vans (207) and lorries (146).
The police action came during Operation Compliance with the Law, focussed on taking an advocacy approach for community engagement towards minor traffic offences instead of immediately issuing a summons.
