IPOH, Sept 19 (Bernama) — A restaurant owner was seriously injured after his right hand got stuck in a meat grinder at an eatery in Jalan Silang 3, Chemor here tonight.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) acting assistant director of operations Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said his department received a call regarding the incident at 8.17 pm before a team from the Meru Raya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was dispatched to the shop.
He said the 41-year-old man was preparing cooking ingredients in a food grinder for fish fillet when his right hand got trapped.
“When fire personnel arrived at the location, the victim’s hand was still in the machine. He was conscious, so we needed the Ministry of Health (MOH) medical team to administer anaesthesia to the victim’s hand, as he was in pain.
“The victim had to wait about 40 minutes for the medical team to administer anaesthesia to his hand before the rescue operation could be carried out,” he said in a statement today.
He said his team managed to remove the victim’s hand by opening the base of the machine using special equipment and turning the grinding gear in the opposite direction.
“The victim suffered serious injuries to four fingers on his right hand before being handed over to the medical team to be taken to the hospital,” he said.
