UniMAP Establishes Over 10 Industrial Labs, Teaching Factories Under TVET Centre

PADANG BESAR, Sept 19 (Bernama) — Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) has established more than 10 industrial laboratories and teaching factories under its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Centre through partnerships with multinational companies.

Vice chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Zaliman Sauli said the university’s Industry-on-Campus (IOC) programme offers professional certification in collaboration with companies such as Siemens, Huawei and Keysight, giving students direct exposure to current industrial technologies.

“As a technical university focused on electrical and electronics in the semiconductor cluster, UniMAP plays a key role in fostering industry collaboration through initiatives like IOC,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after the Ziarah Kasih UniMAP outreach programme, which extended assistance to incoming mechanical engineering student Law Chin Shuan, 21, at Kampung Alor Bemban, Chuping.

Zaliman said UniMAP has signed nearly 300 memoranda of understanding and agreements (MoUs and MoAs) and is involved in around 1,000 active research projects with industry partners.

“This bridges the gap between academia and industry. Our research is aligned with real-world needs and we aim to produce industry-ready graduates,” he said.

UniMAP currently has 13,765 registered students, 96.8 per cent of whom are Malaysians. For the 2025/2026 academic session, the university has issued 3,740 admission offers to new undergraduates.

At the event, Yayasan Perkasa Siswa, along with the university and its Women and Staff Association (PISKANITA), contributed financial aid and food assistance to Chin Shuan and her family.

Her mother, Chantana a/p Eron, 46, is a single mother who works as a food stall assistant and also tends paddy fields to support her three children.
