PETALING JAYA:

Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has urged Malaysians to check and replace faulty MyKad chips to ensure that they benefit from the targeted RON95 petrol subsidy initiative, set to begin at the end of the month.

In a Facebook post, he said the initiative required Malaysians to verify their identity with their MyKads at petrol stations.

“Malaysians are urged to check their MyKads and ensure that the chips are functional.

“If the chip is broken or unreadable, it can be replaced on the same day at any national registration department office,” he said.

In July, Prime Minister Ibrahim said Malaysians would enjoy a lower RON95 price of RM1.99 per litre once the targeted subsidies come into effect.

He also said that the initiative would be rolled out by the end of September.

Saifuddin said while it took some time to roll out the targeted RON95 subsidies, was a “man of his word”.

“Every promise made will be delivered.”

Earlier this year, finance minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan said the government had decided to use MyKads in the implementation of targeted subsidies as the method had been effective in disbursing cash aid under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah scheme.
