KUCHING, Sept 19 — Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata today paid a farewell courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg at Kompleks Satria Pertiwi, ahead of his mandatory retirement on September 29.
Mancha, the first Dayak to hold the post, said he was grateful for the trust and support given throughout his tenure.
“I would like to thank the Premier and the state leadership for their trust, support and cooperation throughout my service.
“As a son of Sarawak, I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to serve in my own homeland,” he told reporters after the meeting.
He also expressed confidence that his successor, Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah, 47, will continue strengthening public safety in the state.
The official handover of duty is set for September 26.
“I believe my successor will carry on this work even better,” he said.
Reflecting on his service, Mancha said Sarawak remained safe under his watch, with crime and public safety kept under control.
“I can assure you that not only crime rates but also public safety were kept under control during my leadership of the Sarawak police,” he added.
Hailing from Asajaya, Samarahan, Mancha joined the police force in Perak where he served nearly three decades before stints in Sabah and later Sarawak.
He was appointed Sarawak Police Commissioner in November 2023 after serving as deputy commissioner from 2021.
Throughout his career in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Mancha served in Perak and Sabah before returning to Sarawak.
He spent nearly three decades in Perak before moving to Sabah as deputy commander of the General Operations Force (GOF) brigade.
He later returned to Sarawak where he held several key positions including GOF brigade commander before his appointment as police commissioner in 2023. — The Borneo Post
