KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 (Bernama) — All agencies under the Federal Territories Department have been directed to immediately mobilise post-flood aid through the Wilayah Persekutuan Bersama Sabah (Federal Territories Together with Sabah) initiative.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, said that this initiative is a sign of solidarity with Sabahans who are facing the disaster.
“This initiative is a symbol of our togetherness with the people of Sabah. It is hoped that this small step can help ease their burden and instil a spirit of hope, showing that they are not alone in facing this ordeal,” she said in a Facebook post today.
According to the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee, as of this afternoon, 2,256 individuals from 710 families have been evacuated to 16 temporary relief centres in five districts: Beaufort, Penampang, Membakut, Papar, and Sipitang.
Continuous rain since last week has caused floods and landslides across the state, resulting in 14 fatalities, including one flood-related death reported so far.
