KOTA KINABALU: Repair and rectification works on the worst-damaged roads and structures in Sabah must be expedited following floods and landslides over the past week, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar paid a visit to several affected locations, including the Country Heights Apartment in Penampang, Kolopis, Kampung Sarapong and the Teachers Training Institute (IPG Gaya) here on Friday (Sept 19).
“We don’t need to go through the usual procedures because these are not usual damages,” said the Prime Minister, adding that unnecessary delays should be avoided.
Regarding the overall situation, he was informed that aid was gradually arriving, and those affected had access to food, drinks, and temporary shelter.
“This takes some burden off their shoulders,” he said.
Anwar thanked all state and federal agencies as well as responders who had sacrificed their time and effort to help the victims, attend to emergency calls and coordinate other efforts during the disaster.
He said the federal government would also coordinate with the state on other follow-up recovery efforts.
Earlier, upon touching down at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, the Prime Minister was greeted by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong and other state leaders, and briefed on the overall situation in Sabah.
