KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 (Bernama) — Malaysia is reaffirming its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Vietnam and promoting regional cooperation with ASEAN countries, the Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam, Datuk Tan Yang Thai, said.
In his speech at the reception of Malaysia’s 68th National Day, 62nd Malaysia Day, and 92nd Malaysian Armed Forces Day in Hanoi, Vietnam, he noted that bilateral ties between Malaysia and Vietnam continue to grow following the establishment of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership last year.
He said the partnership encompasses cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, energy transition, education, tourism, defence and people-to-people exchange.
The envoy also highlighted the recent exchange of high-level visits between the two countries.
“In February, (Malaysian) Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim came for a second visit to Hanoi, this time to deliver the keynote address at the ASEAN Future Forum. In May, (Vietnam’s) Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh carried out an official visit to Malaysia, further strengthening our ties,” he said.
This month, he said Malaysia is hosting the chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam, Tran Thanh Man, in Kuala Lumpur for an official visit as well as participation at the 46th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly.
“Vietnam Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha also joins this high-level delegation, and as part of his visit, he will be attending Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS), the world’s largest halal showcase in Malaysia. These visits show the depth and trust that anchor Malaysia-Vietnam relations,” he said.
The Ambassador said 2025 would be a significant year for both countries, with Malaysia assuming the ASEAN Chairmanship and Vietnam marking 30 years of ASEAN membership.
“Malaysia counts Vietnam as a trusted partner, together with other ASEAN member countries, in our commitment to ASEAN centrality in promoting and protecting the region’s interests,” he said.
